Pangang Vanadium Producer Returns to Profit with 17.45% Revenue Growth

Major Chinese Vanadium Producer Representing Approximately One Fifth of Global Supply Returns to Profit

One of the world’s largest vanadium producers has reported a significant turnaround in its first half 2026 results. Pangang Group Vanadium & Titanium Resources reported RMB 4.996 billion in revenue, up 17.45 percent year over year, while net profit attributable to shareholders reached approximately RMB 221 million.

That represents a substantial reversal from the RMB 199 million loss recorded during the same period last year. Vanadium production also increased. Pangang produced approximately 26,300 tonnes of vanadium products, measured as V2O5, during the first half, an increase of 0.98 percent year over year. The scale is significant.

Based on recent industry production data, Pangang represents approximately 20 percent, or one fifth, of global vanadium production, making its financial and operating performance an important indicator for the worldwide vanadium market.

Why it matters

For the emerging vanadium battery industry, the combination of increasing production and improving producer economics is particularly relevant. Mass commercialization of vanadium redox flow batteries requires significantly greater quantities of vanadium electrolyte. The industry therefore needs a vanadium market capable of supporting both reliable supply and economically sustainable production.

The VanadiumBank Perspective

For long duration energy storage, the objective should not simply be the lowest possible vanadium price. A more important foundation is stable and sustainable vanadium pricing that allows major producers to remain profitable while keeping electrolyte economics competitive for large scale VRFB deployment.

When a producer responsible for roughly one fifth of global supply moves back into profitability while maintaining production growth, that is a meaningful signal for the broader supply chain. Greater supply combined with financially sustainable producers can help reduce commodity uncertainty, improve electrolyte cost forecasting and make long term battery projects easier to finance.

This becomes increasingly important as vanadium electrolyte evolves from an upfront battery cost into a recoverable, reusable and potentially financeable energy asset. VanadiumBank is developing an energy asset management platform through the leasing and revenue sharing of vanadium electrolyte.

A healthy upstream vanadium industry is directly connected to the ability to scale downstream electrolyte production, battery deployment and new electrolyte leasing models.
